Fresh Snacks

The Fresh Snack Program serves a free, whole-food fruit and veggie snack to 2,094 Ithaca Elementary School students, 2-3 days per week, all school year!
Our snacks are as local and organic as possible.  They help with focus and nutrition in the classroom, and increase fruit and vegetable consumption each school day are served.  Fresh Snacks also introduce students and staff alike to new foods that can become lifelong favorites.
Ordering and Preparation are handled by Headwater Food Hub and GreenStar Co-op. Our many partnerships support the snack itself, as well as education and program assessment.
The program began at Beverly J. Martin Elementary School in 2008, and continues to expand.  Over the years, several dedicated organizations and groups have been a part of the formation, sustainability, and expansion of this program.
