Our Harvest Box program, now preparing for its third season is a low-cost weekly farm share provided to families in Tompkins County by the Youth Farm Project and Rocky Acres Community Farm. The boxes are supported by the economic power of the community and based on the principle that everyone should have access to healthy, affordable food of their choosing and have the ability to make decisions on how that food is produced.
The Harvest Box works to remove physical, cultural, and financial barriers to healthy food by providing produce at an affordable price while respecting the dignity and agency of its membership. Participants of the farm share are seen as vital members or our food system and not merely end consumers; their needs and input are at center of the program. There is no need to fill out probing forms or validations to establish need and members are asked at the beginning of the season what the farm can grow for them by our staff.
The Harvest Box only requires payment per share when members decide to pick up that week and accepts multiple forms of payment such as EBT, SNAP, WIC, and Senior Farmers Market Coupons. No one is turned away for inability to pay.
