Fresh Snacks The Fresh Snack Program serves a free whole-food snack to all Ithaca Elementary School students at five schools in the classroom between meals. It began at Beverly J. Martin Elemetnary School in 2008 and continues to expand as resources allow. Over the years, several dedicated organizations and groups have been a part of the formation, sustainablitity, and expansion of this program, and it is now proudly part of the Youth Farm Project as a Center For Transformative Action project. Ordering and Preparation are now handled by Crooked Carrot, and we have many partnerships which support the snack itself, education, and assesment. Our snacks are as local and organic as possible. They help with focus and nutrition in the classroom, and increase fruit and vegetable consumption by a full serving each school day that they are served. Fresh Snacks also introduce students and staff alike to new foods that sometimes become lifelong favorites. Various educational approaches accompany Fresh Snacks.
